A great article that really explains the flaws of the Fiscal Treaty and why we should vote No.
If two people love each other, what right do politicians have to tell them they can’t get married? What right do they have to impose their beliefs on the rest of society? Same-sex marriage does not affect straight people so why do they care? It’s a private affair that is no one else’s business. It doesn’t harm anyone or have any negative effects. So what’s the problem? Continue reading “Same-Sex Marriage Should Be Legal”
While the focus is often on the cause of war, just as important is the cause of peace. Why do some countries avoid going to war? One explanation is the Democratic Peace Theory. It is based on the fact that no two democracies have ever gone to war with each other. Continue reading “Theory Of Peace”
A man toils away at a degrading job, continually mocked and humiliated by colleges and superiors, but cannot respond for fear of losing his job. He is stuck in a dead end without any hope of succeeding with his goals in life. He goes home and takes his anger out on his wife and children.
Germany, defeated and ashamed after the First World War, is further humiliated by the Versailles Treaty. It cannot respond to those who are causing the humiliation so it takes out its rage and frustration on the Jews.
These are both examples of the Frustration Aggression Theory. This is the idea that Continue reading “Cause Of Violence”
It is a bold and engaging idea that we are manipulated into war by big business. It follows the view that the government is controlled by big business and made to serve their interests. It sees foreign policy as enforcing American economic dominance upon the world. The idea is that weapons manufacturers encourage war solely to make bigger profits. It is known as ‘The Devil Theory Of Imperialism’ or more simply in the statement that ‘War Is A Racket’. Continue reading “War Is A Racket”
Ron Paul is either a respectable, insightful voice of liberty or an eccentric old fool clinging to long out dated and daft ideas. A man who will save us from the clutches big government or someone who will deliver us into the claws of big business. Someone willing to challenge the PC brigade and speak the truth or a bigoted racist. A voice of common sense or a man ignorant of facts of life. A brave advocate of a new vision for American foreign policy or an isolationalist crank who wishes to cut America off from the rest of the world. A man who can bring great prosperity to the nation or economic Armageddon. Someone who belongs in the White House as leader of the free world or someone who belongs in a cave wearing a tinfoil hat, muttering conspiracy theories. If I live a hundred years I will never forget the horrors of the Auschwitz death camp. I saw the cramped, sparse wooden sheds, originally designed to store horses, but that prisoners slept in. I saw the cattle containers that were used to transfer millions of Jews to their death. I saw the barbed wire, the electric fences, and the watchtowers that meant few escaped. I saw Block 11, where cruel and barbaric experiments were conducted by deranged Nazi doctors. I saw the hidden courtyard, where prisoners were secretly executed. I saw the starvation cells, where prisoners were denied food and water until they were dead. I saw the enormous chimneys. I saw the furnaces which left no remains of an entire race. I saw the gas chamber, the face of pure evil. I saw the gates of hell. I saw Auschwitz. Continue reading “A Visit To The Gates Of Hell”
(This article was originally written for The College Tribune in January. I was anxious to talk about Santorum because I didn’t think he’d be around for much longer.)
Do you think homosexuals are destroying America? Do you think the government should stop giving money to black people? Do you think universities are brain washing students? Do you think contraceptives are damaging society? Don’t believe in Evolution or Global Warming? If so then you’ll love Rick Santorum, who’s running for the Republican nomination for President. The former Senator from Pennslyvania hit the headlines after winning the Iowa primary three weeks ago. Continue reading “Just Who Is Rick Santorum?”
This time last year there was a political earthquake that changed the shape of Irish politics. Fianna Fail suffered the worst defeat in its history and lost its dominance over Irish politics. The political system in place since 1932 was destroyed. Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Fein made enormous and unprecedented gains, while the losses suffered by Fianna Fail and the Green Party were so great many commentators questioned if they would survive. A Fine-Gael-Labour coalition was formed with the largest majority in history. One year on, how has the new government fared? Has it redefined the way politics operate or is it simply a case of new faces, same old story? Continue reading “New Dawn or More of the Same?”
The Labour party used to have principles. It used to stand for something. Nowadays it is indistinguishable from the Fianna Fail government it had vehemently opposed and its governing partner Fine Gael which it is supposed to counter balance. Continue reading “The Fall Of The Labour Party”
